Keratoconus is an eye disease where the cornea becomes thinner and begins to bulge out. When the cornea bulges vision can get very blurry and unstable along with double vision and light sensitivity.
Keratoconus can be caused by a combination of genetics, hormones, and environmental factors such as rubbing the eyes.
Early-stage keratoconus can be treated with soft contacts or glasses, but as the cornea bulges further and distortions build Scleral Contact lenses are the preferred treatment.
Scleral lenses are large contact lenses that fit on the sclera and over the cornea. Since the lens does not touch the cornea, saline fluid fills the space in between to smooth everything out and give patients the best possible vision and comfort.
At Green Eye Care we use Zenlens Scleral Lenses for maximum comfort and vision. To schedule an evaluation with Dr. Neil Satija please book here. Scleral lens fittings are covered by most insurances as medically necessary contact lens fits.
